Macy was born on July 27, 2007 and passed on March 22, 2021, at the age of 13, surrounded by her loving family. She was one of three pups born to mother Jasmine, and given the name Thelma at birth (also known as the cute little puppy with the blue collar). At twelve weeks old she was adopted by the VanderBor family and they changed her name to Macy (aka: Rue Rue). She quickly outgrew the blue collar and her cute little puppy innocence.
In her glory days, Macy was a wild and destructive pup. A typical day included destroying whatever she could get her paws on (i.e. Longaberger baskets, pads of paper, Christmas tree, furniture, garden hose reel, drywall, her dog kennel and much more). There was a time or two when her human siblings had to legitimately tell the teacher “my dog ate my homework”. The little rascal even pulled some of the siding off the house one time. It didn’t take long for her human family to learn how smart she really was and to keep an eye on her every move. She always knew that she had a mind of a human, but now they knew it too.
Her mischievous behavior eventually led to her enrollment in doggy school, where she quickly excelled. In fact, she was the only pup in her class to graduate with her CGC (canine good citizen). With her education completed, Macy knew it was time to grow up and start behaving like a proper adult dog, except for sleeping between mom and dad each night. She never outgrew that!
In her younger years, she enjoyed adventuring through the woods, going on long walks, swimming in the lake, chasing squirrels, snuggling with her family, and attending her human siblings sporting events. She had a reputation for cheering their team on from the sidelines while lounging in her own special chair & canopy for shade and sporting her teams logo on her matching collar & leash. It didn’t matter to her what anyone said, she was convinced that she was a human and there was no telling her anything different.
Christmas was by far her favorite holiday. It was always difficult for her to wait until Christmas Day to open presents. Often times, she would become overwhelmed by impatient excitement and would open gifts far in advance of Christmas. This included the gifts set aside for her human family, which would often invoke a lot of tears from her small human siblings and bad words from mom, as she was left to rewrap the same gifts over and over in an attempt to save Christmas. When the big day finally rolled around, Macy would prance around the tree with a sense of urgency and excited to open her gifts from Santa. Eventually tearing into each gift with a true sense of joy and happiness. Those were the good ole’ days!
In her final years, Macy found that she had a true passion for napping on the couch, and eating junk food (especially cookies). She was a sweet girl that will be remembered for her high doggy IQ and loving spirit. She is survived by her human parents: Brian and Michelle VanderBor; human siblings: Yazmene and Trenton VanderBor; canine brother: Brodii; and feline sister Maggie. She is preceded in death by her adopted canine brother Austin; and Aunt Zoe.
