Officer Zorro passed away unexpectedly on Thursday November 7, 2019 at the age of four due to medical complications. Zorro was born in the Netherlands and later relocated to Portage, Michigan after taking a job with the Portage Public Safety Department in November 2016. Upon joining the force, he was partnered with Officer Jordan Wentworth. The fallen K9 served bravely and admirably with the Portage Police Department for three years.
It was easy for Officer Zorro to quickly become a crowd favorite, winning over the hearts of his colleagues and the community. While on duty, he spent countless hours alongside Officer Wentworth working narcotic cases, patrolling the community, conducting searches, and attending public relations events.
Although Zorro's passing is a great loss to our community, it's an even greater loss to his handler and partner Officer Jordan Wentworth, as Zorro had become a beloved member of the Officers family. Zorro will be remembered as a brave and distinguished officer that selflessly served his community.
Anyone wishing to donate can do so through the Portage Public Safety Foundation (501c3) with all proceeds going to support the K9 program.
