We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.
Steve has been a licensed funeral director for over 25 years. He is committed to helping families with a loss of their pet with dignity. Steve and his wife Jenny live in Schoolcraft. Together they raise five children, Mackenzie, Emma, Joey, Evan and Stephen; and have two dogs, Charlie and Bella. Charlie is a yellow lab and Bella was a rescue dog. Bella feels if a leaf is blowing that she needs to notify the entire house. Charlie he just goes with the flow.
From the time I was born until now pets have always been a big part of my life. The furry family members have taught me so much over the years. they have been constant companions and loyal friends.

These are my dogs Macy (left) and Brodii (right). Macy is an eleven year old Weimaraner and we call her my velcro dog. She loves to snuggle and wherever I am, you can usually find her two steps behind me. Brodii is a seven year old German Shorthair Pointer that we rescued in Ohio after his owner dropped him off at a kill shelter. Brodii has become my son’s best friend, as he’s helped him overcome his medical challenges. His strong personality and independent attitude makes us laugh and keeps us on our toes.
My dogs are my babies and they make me happy! I truly believe that dogs make the world a better place and I couldn’t imagine living my life without them!
"Kaylyn Cabot is an Administrative Assistant for the Avink Funeral Home & Cremation Society in Portage. Originally from Manistee, she moved down to Kalamazoo in 2013 to attend Western Michigan University, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Communication Studies. When she is not creating memorable events and experiences for others, you might find her working part time as a Shipt shopper. In her spare time she enjoys running the Kal Haven trail with her dog, Sully, as well as painting, reading, and watching crime documentaries. Kaylyn also loves to be outside - so hiking, camping, kayaking and fishing are also hobbies she takes up when she has free time. Some of her favorite childhood memories include fishing on the big lake with her dad. One time she reeled in an 18lb Brown Trout!"
